BAA (biologically active additives)

Biologically active additives (BAA) are a kind of food additive. BAA are not considered to be drugs.

Dietary supplements must undergo the state registration procedure prior to its release on the market, which is monitored by Rospotrebnadzor (The Federal Service for Monitoring Consumer Protection and Welfare). It obligates the applicant or producer to provide a list of documents that prove the safety and advisability of BAA release. One of the mandatory documents is a laboratory report (issued by an accredited analytical laboratory), which provides comprehensive information regarding the compliance of BAA with current standards on safety and quality (in accordance with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union 021/2011). Our laboratory is authorised to conduct these tests.

Our laboratory performs a full list of BAA analyses to confirm quality, safety, physical-chemical parameters, and authenticity.

We test biologically active additives of different composition:

  • Primarily based on proteins and amino acids;
  • Primarily based on animal fats;
  • Based on vegetable oils;
  • Based on fish oil;
  • Primarily based on assimilable carbohydrates;
  • Mainly based on dietary fibres;
  • Based on substances containing vitamins;
  • Based on natural minerals;
  • Based on processed raw meat and milk;

Swab analyses

We conduct swab control tests of various objects of public and industrial purposes:

  • Walls of premises
  • Cold rooms
  • Employees’ hands and clothing
  • Inventory
  • Equipment and other objects

In our laboratories we conduct analyses on quality and safety parameters as well as physical-chemical parameters in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation, to ensure that the products, or manufacturing, respectively, comply with these safety criteria.

We provide control services to assess the sanitary-bacteriological quality of microbiological swabs from different objects, from employees’ hands to the walls of industrial premises. These requirements apply to the sanitary inspection of facilities, such as catering, retailers, producing companies, etc.

Regular monitoring of microbiological swabs allows the evaluation of compliance within the rules of hygiene for employees, the sanitary regime in general, and to anticipate the possible irregularities in the process of a product’s preparation.

Therefore, the ultimate goal of a swab analysis is to prevent consumer food poisoning. As a result, an immediate analysis and control of swabs (during the manufacturing and release period) is extremely important.

Soils

According to the Land Code of the Russian Federation, all lands are divided into categories according to their targeted purpose. In Russia there are also sanitary requirements for the quality of soils used for:

  • Settlements;
  • Farmland;
  • Industrial facilities.

A compliance with the sanitary requirements for allocation, design, construction, reconstruction and maintenance of various facilities is mandatory for all legal entities.

We conduct a standard list of studies on chemical and microbiological indicators to determine the presence of certain substances in the soil. For example:

  • Heavy metals;
  • Benzo(a)pyrene and petroleum products;
  • pH;
  • Total pollution index;
  • Lactose positive colibacillus;
  • Enterococcus;
  • Pathogenic microorganism;

In addition to standard laboratory parameters tests, WESSLING Laboratories provide various additional tests, for example:

  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs);
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs);
  • Surface-active substances (surfactants);
  • Elemental composition;
  • Phenol and its derivatives;
  • Pesticides;
  • Indicators of radiation safety.

Today, the popularity of organic products produced on ecological farms is increasing in Russia. In Europe, the term "organic farm" is clearly formulated at the legislative level to limit the allowable concentrations of potentially hazardous substances. Our laboratories test the soil of farmlands to ensure that the growth of organic products is in compliance with European regulations.
