Biologically active additives (BAA) are a kind of food additive. BAA are not considered to be drugs.

Dietary supplements must undergo the state registration procedure prior to its release on the market, which is monitored by Rospotrebnadzor (The Federal Service for Monitoring Consumer Protection and Welfare). It obligates the applicant or producer to provide a list of documents that prove the safety and advisability of BAA release. One of the mandatory documents is a laboratory report (issued by an accredited analytical laboratory), which provides comprehensive information regarding the compliance of BAA with current standards on safety and quality (in accordance with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union 021/2011).
